Past Commanders   Honor Flights Cedar Rapids

HOT Notes:

1.  We will host a benefit on 12 May for the new Veterans Outreach Center in Cedar Rapids.  The activities include a band and raffle.  Donations are requested to help fund this center that focuses on the plight of our homeless veterans.

2.  Honor Flights will return on 24 April and 5 June.  Being at the airport around 9 to welcome these WWII vets home is as rewarding to those who do it, as it is to the veterans returning.

Attention Legionnaires and Auxiliary Members.

Do you have a relative that is a senior in high school? They may be eligible for a merit award presented by Unit 298 American Legion Auxiliary or a scholarship presented by the Legion . Please click here to view and print out the Auxiliary application and here to view the Legion Application.  The requirements are listed in each application.

A committee was formed in Spring of 2012 to determine future growth for the Memorial.  We have used all of the bricks, and we have members and others who would like to put their own names, or honor others.  Coordination with the city is involved, so progress may take a while to determine what land from the old railroad tracks is available and a design that is tasteful and functional for our future needs.

We have filled all the slots in our current structure.  If there is sufficient interest, we will begin construction of another
wall or other device to suitably honor memorial bricks.  If you are interested in having a brick made to honor someone
please contact the Post by email at post_298@commspeed.net and let us know.  Email is preferred as it can be saved better
than a note from a telephone call.

Currently, there are no bricks being produced and no quick method for giving the honor.

                We Shall Never Forget!

President Abraham Lincoln as stated in the Gettysburg Address

"From these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the
last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain."
